Divisional Academic Support

The Bobcat Advising Center (BAC) serves as the academic advising home for all first year (freshman) students in every major and all undeclared students in every class year. BAC launched in Fall 2018 with 8 professional academic advisors and one Director. Professional staff provide holistic, developmental advising to first years that enhances their ability to successfully pursue their academic, career, and personal goals.

A partnership with the Chemistry and Math faculty, the centers provide drop-in tutoring services for the discipline. Tutoring support is offered by graduate students and advanced undergraduates.

The University Writing Center was born out of partnership between the Library and the Merritt Writing Program. Informed by committee reports, program assessments, and research, the pilot writing center project was launched in 2014 with the goal of strengthening UC Merced’s campus culture around writing. Now a program within the Office of Undergraduate Education, the University Writing Center continues to collaborate with the Library, the Merritt Writing Program, and other constituents across campus to further develop a culture of writing at UC Merced.
